About the Centru sector

The Centru sector covers part of the historic core of Chișinău and the neighbourhoods south of it, including Malina Mică and Telecentru. Its main roads are Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt, Negruzzi and Gagarin boulevards and 31 August 1989, București, Kogălniceanu, Alexei Mateevici, Izmail and Vasile Alecsandri streets. The railway station and the bus stations are here, and trolleybuses and buses link Centru with the other sectors.

The historic core keeps buildings from the second half of the XIX and the first half of the XX century, many of them monuments; Soviet-era houses and new complexes stand beside them. Here too are Cathedral Park and the Ștefan cel Mare Public Garden, the State University of Moldova, the Academy of Sciences and the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre, and in Malina Mică the Republican Clinical Hospital, the Oncology Institute and a teaching building of the Nicolae Testemițanu University of Medicine. Renting in Centru suits those who want to live close to work and to institutions.

Centru is lively by day and in the evening, the main roads are noisy, and parking during working hours is not easy. When buying a flat in an old building, check the building’s technical condition, its monument status and whether any extensions are legal.
