Ciocana is a district in eastern Chișinău, on the left bank of the Bîc River. Its main thoroughfare is Mircea cel Bătrîn Boulevard; important streets also include Ginta Latină, Igor Vieru, Maria Drăgan, Meșterul Manole and Vadul lui Vodă, while Alecu Russo Street connects Ciocana with the Rîșcani district. Trolleybuses and buses run to the city centre. The district also includes the suburbs of Vadul lui Vodă and the villages of Bubuieci, Budești, Colonița, Cruzești and Tohatin.
The housing stock mainly consists of apartment blocks built here from the 1960s and 70s, including 9- and 16-storey buildings. There are also many newer buildings in the district, especially around Mircea cel Bătrîn Boulevard, so apartments in Ciocana are available both in resale buildings and new-builds. There is a market on Ginta Latină Street for everyday shopping.
Ciocana is also a major industrial district, home to CHPP-2 and several factories. The neighbourhood is quieter within the residential blocks, while the route to the city centre crosses bridges over the Bîc valley and can be congested during peak hours.
